Information about me:	Hello! I am in my third year student of VCU's child psychology doctoral program. Since I was younger, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career with children. I have always been told that I have a gift in working with kids, such that they respect me and have fun with me. My personality is one of high energy and therefore kids tend to gravitate to me. I have extensive experience in working with kids. In high school, I babysat for my mom's friend's children. In college, I was a camp counselor for two summers and formed great relationships with all of my campers. In fact, they still contact me today to provide updates on their lives. At all of my jobs and schools since college, my bosses and advisors have selected me to babysit their kids. Finally, I have been training as a child psychologist for the past three years and have acquired valuable skills in working with different types of children.
Most important aspect of the job:	The most important aspect of babysitting is that the kids understand the expectations and boundaries but are otherwise having fun. I frequently draw from the skills I have learned in my training to provide a structured environment where the kids are rewarded with fun and games for complying with the expectations.
Most rewarding:	The most rewarding part of babysitting is the relationships formed with the kids - both what I come to mean to them and what they come to mean to me.
How do you deal with common frustrations such as incessant crying, spitting out food or refusing to nap?	I have extensive experience in using evidence-based techniques to deal with noncompliant children. Essentially I rely on rewards so that children understand they get something special if they comply. Consequences are a last resort if rewards are ineffective, and the consequences will entail something like time-out.
