Information about me:	I'm a young grandmother -- a semi-retired mental health therapist -- who remembers how difficult it was to find mature, reliable babysitters for my own children when they were young. I've been around a lot of children, of every age, over the years and they like me. Many of them still contact me. We've always had a good time but, for their well-being, I've always remained the adult. I have an excellent relationship with my own children and grandchildren.
Most important aspect of the job:	Adapting to a child in a way that makes them feel safe, comfortable, and secure is the most important thing about caring for them.
Most rewarding:	Every person who comes into a child's life makes an impact on them -- no matter how great or small. I used to be the parenting and family assessment specialist for a residential adolescent rehab facility and came to believe that even one person can make a critical difference in the outcome of a child's life. I have sometimes been that person and it is among the greatest of feelings.
How do you deal with common frustrations such as incessant crying, spitting out food or refusing to nap?	Experience matters when dealing with a fussy child. First, you make sure the situation is safe, then make sure it feels as familiar to them as possible; then you assess what's behind the child's behavior -- are they tired, hungry, anxious, or physically or emotionally uncomfortable? Being able to understand what the child can't articulate is the key to responding appropriately.
